Why you’ll love this recipe

Crispy, Golden Perfection
Flaky puff pastry paired with creamy, seasoned chicken filling makes every bite irresistibly good.

Great for All Occasions
Whether it’s lunch, dinner, snacks, picnics, or lunchboxes, these turnovers are always a hit.

Freezer-Friendly & Make-Ahead
Prep a batch and freeze them baked or unbaked for quick meals during the week.

Customisable Fillings
Swap sweetcorn for peas, add chilli flakes, or use leftover chicken.

Kid-Friendly & Crowd-Pleasing
Mildly spiced, cheesy, and handheld, they’re ideal for picky eaters or family gatherings.

Top Tips

Cool the Filling First
Let the filling cool before assembling as this prevents soggy pastry and makes sealing easier.

Don’t Overfill
A heaped tablespoon of filling is plenty, too much will cause leaking and uneven baking.

Seal with Egg Wash
Use egg wash around the edges and on top to seal well and get a glossy, golden finish.

Use Pre-Rolled Puff Pastry
It saves time and ensures even thickness for perfect puffing.

Add a Touch of Spice (Optional)
A pinch of chilli powder or smoked paprika can take the flavour up a notch.

  3. Place a spoonful of chicken filling on one half of each square. Top with a little grated cheese.

Bake

  1. Place the turnovers on a lined baking tray.
  2. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.

Storage tips

Fridge: Store baked turnovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for crispness.

Freezer: Freeze raw or baked turnovers for up to 1 month. Bake straight from frozen, adding 5–7 extra minutes.

Reheating: Avoid the microwave and instead reheat in a hot oven (180°C / 350°F) or air fryer to maintain the crispy texture.
