This recipe is such a fun spin on the traditional butter croissant. If you like croissants and cookies then you will love these Cookie Dough Croissants. They are buttery, flakey and filled with a creamy and sweet cookie dough filling. Adding some cookie dough on top of the croissant as well creates a crispy and delicious texture for the top. The recipe couldn’t be more simple and you can even use shop bought cookie dough to save you making it from scratch. I made my own cookie dough because cookies are one of my absolute favourite things to bake and it doesn’t take long at all. When making cookies, I like to chill the dough in the fridge before baking but this recipe is great because you can skip the chilling process altogether. It’s just a case of mixing together all the ingredients for the cookies and then assembling the croissants.
How to make a Cookie Dough Croissant
- Pre-heat the oven to 180C.
- If you choose to buy pre-made cookie dough then you can skip the following step.
- To make the batter you mix together the sugars, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, salt, plain flour, baking soda and chocolate chips until you get a thick and delicious looking cookie dough.
- Slice open the croissant and spread the cookie dough inside. Close the croissant and top the croissant with a little cookie dough as well.
- Place onto a baking tray and the bake for around 11 mins. The croissant will be flaky and the cookie dough will be crispy and chewy on top. The cookie dough inside the croissant will be creamy and delicious (that was my favourite part of the croissant!).
Why you’ll love this Cookie Dough Croissant recipe
Really simple to make – This recipe is quick and easy to prepare and bake. The cookie dough comes together in less than 10 minutes and it only needs 11 minutes to bake in the oven.
A delicious combo – The combination of croissants and cookies is great because they have different tastes and textures. Separately they are great but combined, they are amazing!

Ingredient substitutions in this Cookie Dough Croissant recipe
I know it can be frustrating when you want to make a recipe but there are certain ingredients which you can’t use or don’t have at home. I’ve listed a few substitutions below which you might find useful when baking
Butter: Instead of butter you can use margarine or coconut oil. Just use the same amount of grams that you would use for the butter
Sugar: Chocolate chip cookie recipes usually use both white and brown sugar but you could also use coconut sugar, maple syrup or honey.
Plain Flour: Whole wheat flour or even gluten free flour if you are sensitive to gluten.
Eggs: If you can’t eat eggs or don’t have any at home right now, you can try a flaxseed egg which is 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tablespoons of water. You could also use a mashed banana or apple puree.
Baking Soda: You could use baking powder if you don’t have the soda but you will need to add in double the amount than what the recipe calls for.
Vanilla Extract: Substitute the extract with vanilla powder or bean paste but you could try different extracts in your cookies. Use almond or salted caramel for a different flavour profile.
Chocolate Chips: Adding chopped nuts, dried fruit or a combination of both will add some great texture. Use white chocolate, dark chocolate, or caramel pieces for a different flavour.
Salt: Sea salt or kosher salt can replace table salt but just be mindful of the quantity and adjust it to taste.
