Iced Vanilla Latte
I was once in a meeting at work and the lady sitting beside me had a hot vanilla latte and the smell was so amazing! I remember being jealous that I didn’t have one and up until that point I had never tried any syrups in my hot drinks. My brother used to bang on and on about hazelnut mochas but I loved mochas so didn’t want to mess with them.
I remember eagerly waiting for the meeting to end so I could make a bee line to the coffee cart at work so I could try a vanilla latte. I got my cup and waited for it to cool a little before taking a sip, after burning my tongue the first time I decided to wait a little longer before taking the second sip. The taste was glorious. The taste of vanilla is great, I add it to all of my cakes and it makes them taste so amazing.
Affogato’s are one of my favourite desserts and I’m certain it’s because of the delicious vanilla taste of the ice cream. I asked the barista which brand of syrup she used and found them in my local grocery store. It was tempting to buy the 3 pack of vanilla, hazelnut and salted caramel but decided to stick with just the vanilla for now.
I recreated the vanilla latte at home and it was just as delicious. As the weather was starting to get a little warmer, I decided to add ice to make a refreshing drink and I love it just as much as the hot coffee!

- Quality Ingredients: If you choose to brew your coffee at home, use high-quality coffee beans for your espresso or coffee. Freshly brewed and roasted coffee will significantly impact the overall flavour of your iced vanilla latte. If however you choose to use instant coffee, then pick a brand that you love the taste of.
- Good-Quality Vanilla Syrup: Use a good-quality vanilla syrup or make your own with real vanilla extract. You don’t want an overly artificial flavour, so the vanilla syrup should add sweetness and a rich vanilla flavour.
- Instant Coffee or Chilled Espresso: Use chilled espresso or instant coffee for your iced vanilla latte. Make sure your coffee is strong to prevent dilution from the ice and milk.
- Proper Chilling: Chill your coffee before pouring over the ice. This prevents the ice from melting too quickly and diluting the flavours.
- Balanced Sweetness: Adjust the sweetness of your drink by starting with a smaller amount and adding in more if needed. This allows you to customise the sweetness without overpowering the coffee.
MORE TIPS
- Quality Milk or Milk Alternative: Choose a whole milk or milk alternative such as oat or cashew for a creamy texture. Dairy milk, almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk can all work well, depending on your preference.
- Large Ice cubes: Use large ice cubes to prevent the drink from becoming watery too quickly. Using large ice cubes or coffee ice cubes will maintain the integrity of the flavours for longer.
